The Wheel of Time

The last two years have been super crazy and busy. I have failed in my duty of updating my blog with what I am currently reading. I have been through several different series and books in the last two years, even re-reading some of my favorite books from the past.
Currently, I have found myself buried in The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I just started book five, The Fires of Heaven. I have ventured to watch the first 3 episodes of the series on AmazonPrime, but stopped. I know they are basing the series on the books, but they have altered so many plot points that it is nearly unrecognizable. Anyway, I digress.
I am not a fast reader by any means, and it takes me a while to get through each book. I am currently reading the 5th book in the series. The Fires of Heaven is 963 pages. Needless to say, this will take a while to work through, but I am up to the challenge. I made it through reading The Silmarillion, so I feel like I can make it through anything!
As I read through the series, I find myself pulled towards a few characters, while wishing for others to disappear. Rand Al'Thor is one of the characters I gravitate towards. He has a very heavy burden placed on his shoulders and is trying his best to navigate life with his new fate, all the while there are others trying to manipulate him to do as they wish. Perrin Aybara is my favorite character hands down. He is loyal, kind, and gentle to a point. He stands up for what is right, even when the odds are clearly not in his favor. His story, to me, is a greater one than Rand Al'Thor's, despite Rand being the character the book revolves around.
If the length of the books, or even the 12 books in the series, seems daunting to you. I suggest to take it one book, or page, at a time. I know the books were written in the early 1990's to 2000's, but they are still worth reading today. I would caution readers on the fact that there is violence and the women in the book tend to strip naked quite a bit. There are no details on their nakedness, but it does get tiring after the fourth book. The nice thing about the series is that you don't have to worry about any incest, rape, or sex scenes (at least as far as I have read). I do try to read current adult fantasy novels, but am unable to get very far without sex, cussing, or a rape scene.
In short, if you are a fantasy fan and have yet to read the series, I would strongly suggest the series. If you are watching the show on AmazonPrime, I would strongly suggest reading the books to see how different the story unfolds. You may find that a character you like in the show unlikable in the books.
Happy Reading!!
